BLUE MOON. THE JOURNEYMAN’S TALE.

Do a blog, AM said. What’s a blog, I said. It’s a, well, never mind, just write something. OK, I’m a writer, I can do that. How hard can it be? I’ve written ten novels to date and like in most things you get better as you go along. Perhaps you’d like to share in my journey, take on board a few tips I have learned the hard way. Things like character creation, plotting, research etc. Above all, how to have fun while embarking on the journey of a lifetime. Firstly, a few lines on the novel most recently published by AM, Devil’s Tumble. It is the second in a planned series of Kuwait City based detective thrillers featuring British educated Bedouin homicide detective, Riad Ajmi. The first was The Mask of Louka, set in the mountains of Saudi Arabia where I lived for a while and I’m currently working on another. We have had crime from four corners of the world, most recently the Scandinavian noir novels and I thought it high time we had an Arab dedective with a difference. The challence, of course, was to make him someone you like, someone you want to succeed. With all the negative publicity coming from the Middle East this posed a real challenge. So meet Riad Ajmi, born in Paris to a Saudi Arabian military attache and a French Lebanese music student mother. British public school educated with a degree in English LIterature from Cambridge University. A man torn between his Bedouin heritage and the philosophy a western education gifted. See what you think. Details on my website: ebenbeukes.com or via Austin Macauley Publishers.  More next time. EB
